Electric Forklift vs. Diesel Forklift, Which is Better?

The rapid development of electronic control technology makes the operation of electric forklift become more and more comfortable, the wider the scope of application, the more and more solutions to logistics, the market demand of electric forklift will grow faster and faster, and the market share of electric forklift will be more and more large.  Due to its simple operation and flexible control, the operating intensity of the electric forklift operator is much lighter than that of the internal combustion forklift. Its electric steering system, acceleration control system, hydraulic control system and braking system are controlled by electrical signals, which greatly reduce the labor intensity of the operator.  This will greatly help to improve the efficiency and accuracy of their work.  

 

Below, follow me to analyze which is better from the cost comparison of electric forklift and diesel forklift:  

1. Purchase cost: Take the 3-ton forklift as an example, the ex-factory price of the 3-ton diesel forklift with standard configuration is ¥60,000 yuan, and the ex-factory price of the 3-ton electric forklift with the same load is ¥119,000 yuan.

 

2. Using cost: the consumption cost of electric energy is much lower than that of diesel.  The cost of diesel consumed per shift (40 litres per shift and 5.5 litres per 60 VDI cycles per hour) by a 3-ton diesel forklift is about ¥288 yuan(¥7.2 yuan per litre diesel).  

 

If a 3-ton electric forklift uses an 80V 500AH battery (the storage capacity of the battery is 8×500=40 KWH), the cost of operating a shift (discharging 80%, according to 120% supplementary charging ratio, the energy consumption is about 40 degrees) is about ¥40 yuan (according to the current industrial electricity consumption of ¥1 yuan per degree).  Of course, due to the implementation of the new peak-valley time-of-use pricing policy by industrial power, in practice, electric forklifts work during the day and charge at night to save electricity.  

 

With an average saving of ¥140 yuan per day, 250 working days a year can save ¥35,000 yuan per year in energy costs.  To calculate the use time of 2 years(with the battery cycle of 500 times for the replacement cycle), the energy consumption of electric forklift compared with diesel forklift can save ¥70,000 yuan.  In fact, 20 percent of the alarm power of electric forklift batteries has been charged and discharged more than 3,000 times.  

 

3. Maintenance cost: usually the maintenance cycle of internal combustion forklift is up to 500 working hours, while many electric forklifts can reach more than 1000~1500 hours of maintenance cycle.

 

Maintenance content, the maintenance of electric forklift is more simple than the maintenance of internal combustion forklift, usually as long as the lubrication of some joint parts such as door frame bearings, steering bridge and other mainly to check and clean, at most is in every 2000 or 3000 hours to replace a hydraulic oil.  And the internal combustion forklift in addition to lubrication, the longest every 500 hours (generally in every 300 hours or so) to replace the engine oil and oil filter, every 1000 hours to replace the hydraulic oil, oil, transmission oil and these oil filters.  Also replace belts (engine timing belts, generator belts, etc.).   

 

The maintenance cost is calculated according to the annual operation of 2000 hours. The maintenance cost of internal combustion forklift is ¥3000 ~ 4000 yuan (only material cost), while the maintenance cost of electric forklift is only ¥1000 ~ 1500 yuan (material cost).  

 

The time required for maintenance, because the maintenance interval cycle of electric forklift is much longer than that of internal combustion forklift, and the time required for each maintenance is much less than that of internal combustion forklift, which greatly saves the labor cost required for maintenance. In fact, the more substantial is that the downtime of forklift is greatly shortened.  It is difficult to calculate the economic benefits brought by the improved working efficiency of forklifts.  

 

4. Electric forklift battery and diesel forklift engine overhaul cost comparison:  

If the service life of the battery of electric forklift at 20% alarm battery charge and discharge times, 2000 times charging and discharging cycle, converted into a forklift work hours is 10000 hours, it is equivalent to a same internal-combustion forklift engine overhaul time, when the electric forklift battery replacement cost and engine overhaul cost is close to,  But replacing the battery is much faster than overhauling the engine (or replacing the engine), which gives you an advantage in time efficiency.  

 

It can be seen that although the cost of purchasing electric forklifts is higher than that of diesel forklifts with the same load capacity, the total using cost can be directly measured by data. It can be seen that the total cost of using electric forklifts is much lower than that of diesel forklifts.  On the one hand, more and more forklifts operate indoors, which has higher and higher requirements for vehicle exhaust emissions.  Europe and the United States and other places have strict regulations, indoor ban on the use of diesel forklifts.  Even though domestic laws and regulations have not yet begun to strictly limit the use of diesel forklifts indoors. Compared with diesel forklifts, the advantages of low noise and no exhaust emissions of electric vehicles have been recognized by many users.
